If you haven’t noticed, I’m very patriotic — and today, on Veterans Day, I want to honor those who’ve served by sharing a few special photos of my dad, Paul Roberts, during his time in the Navy.
I asked Jill what she thought about doing a Veterans Day post, and of course she agreed. I also asked if her dad had served. “Yes, he did,” she replied. Gerald Chastain, her father, served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 aboard the USS Montrose during the Korean War. My dad served from 1944 to 1947 on the USS Cacapon during World War II.
In the slider, you’ll see two letters — I encourage you to pause and read them. Following that is a medal awarded to Gerald for heroically jumping overboard to save a fellow crew member from drowning. Incredible bravery.
Jill and I are both deeply proud of our fathers and their service. But our gratitude doesn’t stop there — we also honor other family members who’ve served: Jill’s grandfather, (Army) served in WW1, my sister-in-law (also Navy), served in Desert Storm and my son, (Army Air Airborne) served in Afghanistan. Finally, my father-in-law. He was also in the army, and he served in Korea. He is 94 years old.
I’m sure I speak for Jill when I say we are profoundly thankful for all who have served and sacrificed for our country. Your courage and dedication mean everything.mation LLC
